The Phab 2 Pro, a super-sized smartphone that's also the first handset with Google's 3D-sensing Tango tech inside , is pretty exciting. The Phab 2 (sans Pro) is somewhat less so: it's a similar design, without Tango and with a much less powerful system-on-a-chip. wojuplus.com But apparently that proprietary bundle of cameras and sensors is really expensive, because without it the phone costs just $199.99 . Not bad for a 6.4-inch screen, mid-range specs, and an unlocked GSM radio. According to its American storefront, Lenovo will start selling the Phab 2 on November 1st.
There are some corners cut, of course. That gigantic screen has a resolution of just 1280x720, making it only slightly more pixel-dense than a 7-inch Android tablet circa 2010. The Phab 2 Pro has a much more size-appropriate QHD screen, four times as sharp. The Pro's Snapdragon 652 processor is swapped out for a cheaper MediaTek MTK 8735 (quad-core 1.3GHz), the cameras are bumped down to 13MP and 5MP on the rear and front, respectively, storage is only 32GB with a MicroSD card slot, and RAM is 3GB instead of 4GB. The fingerprint sensor is nowhere to be seen.
Disappointing screen notwithstanding, that's still a lot of phone for $200. The design keeps the 8.9mm aluminum chassis, gigantic 4050mAh battery, and Android 6.0 (with Lenovo's software skin on top, natch). If you're looking for the biggest possible screen for the lowest price, specs be damned, this is probably it. Grey and champagne colors are available for pre-order now.
